Our Founder

At the California Institute for Human Science, we are inspired by the principles and philosophy of our founder and first President, Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama. Dr. Motoyama’s life was directed toward laying the foundations for the emergence of a new integrative worldview wherein the insights derived from religion, spirituality, and science could be harmonized and unified. Specifically, Dr. Motoyama held that the materialistic universe disclosed by twentieth century science is but one aspect of a broader and deeper cosmos that includes spiritual dimensions. He taught that the human being consists of body, mind, soul, and spirit, and that humanity’s deepest essence is love and wisdom. All human beings have an inherent capability to achieve oneness with God and to realize the underlying emptiness of the Absolute.

Research Spotlight...

The WISER Project and Survey

The CIHS’ Center for Anomalous and Noetic Studies (CANS), Worldwide Initiative for Super Experiencer Research (WISER) has launched its next major global research survey.

Click here to take the survey

This WISER research project aims to bring a new level of academic rigor and methodological sophistication to the study of anomalous, extraordinary, and noetic experiences that people have (often on a much more regular basis than is acknowledged!).

The current survey is the next phase of a global research effort to better understand individuals who have had multiple types of anomalous or noetic experiences. These may include: Expanded self, Mystical, Near-death experiences (NDEs), Noetic dreams, Nonhuman intelligence (NHI) / Nonphysical human (NPH) encounters, Out-of-body experiences (OBEs), Paranormal, Permeable self, Psychic, Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) / Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) encounters, and related experiences.
