Biography

Holding a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from The Colorado College, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Dr. Brophy’s academic and scientific backgrounds include work on NASA’s Voyager and Cassini spacecraft projects and an appointment as a National Science Foundation Exchange Scientist at the University of Tokyo.

Dr. Brophy first connected with CIHS’ Founder and First President, Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama, in 1995 when he was the recipient of a Motoyama-Bentov Scholarship, a one-month research fellowship named in honor of Dr. Motoyama and in memory of Itzhak Bentov, a physicist, mystic, and author of Stalking the Wild Pendulum. During this appointment, Dr. Brophy received an immersive education into Dr. Motoyama’s subtle energies research, and his advanced meditation teaching, while simultaneously conducting his own scientific research, applying a photoelectric model that he had developed to describe processes in Saturn’s rings to the production of biophotons in the human body.

In the Summer of 1997, Dr. Motoyama invited Dr. Brophy to lead CIHS as Dean of Administration. Under Dr. Brophy’s administration, the Institute experienced growth, increased stability, and began exploring WASC accreditation, although structural and regulatory requirements proved to be a barrier to pursuing WASC at that time. As a result, Dr. Brophy stepped away from the administrative role in 2000, although he remained connected and devoted to the Institute as a program consultant, lead faculty member, and friend of Dr. Motoyama.

In February 2016, Dr. Brophy returned to the CIHS administration as Executive Dean in advance of a meeting at WASC’s main office in Alameda, California to discuss the restructuring needed to meet WASC standards. Since then, he co-led the accreditation effort, especially regarding the strategic, financial, and institutional planning that was essential to achieving WASC Eligibility status in November 2016. In January 2018, Dr. Brophy was appointed Associate Accreditation Liaison Officer, and he co-led the Institute during the successful acquisition of WASC Candidacy status in July 2018.

Dr. Brophy was appointed President of CIHS, July 1, 2019.

Dr. Brophy is the author of several books, including The Mechanism Demands a Mysticism and The Origin Map, and he is co-author of Black Genesis: The Prehistoric Origins of Ancient Egypt, and Imhotep the African: Architect of the Cosmos. He has also published peer-reviewed articles in premier scientific journals including Science, Icarus, and IEEE Journal, and his work has been featured in Nature.

Dr. Brophy has presented at numerous scientific conferences, including several times to the Toward a Science of Consciousness conferences. His researches in the field of Archaeoastronomy has been featured in several television shows and documentaries. In June of 2019, he was named President of the International Society for Consciousness Studies, a consortium of professional scholars working at the forefront of interdisciplinary approaches to the study of consciousness.
