Stephen Larsen, Ph.D., is an educator, historian, and entrepreneur whose work focuses on the integration of intellectual inquiry, institutional innovation, and global learning, with a particular interest in the relationship between the human sciences and emerging scientific and technological fields. Over more than three decades his scholarship, teaching, and leadership have focused on developing educational models grounded in the liberal arts and sciences and oriented toward the cultivation of the whole person.
Dr. Larsen has held teaching and leadership roles at Harvard University and Princeton University. His scholarship has examined the cultural and philosophical foundations of modern educational and scientific institutions, while his work with students has emphasized dialogical, inquiry-based learning and the formation of reflective learning communities. He has been a fellow at Harvard’s Bok Center for Teaching and Learning and continues to contribute to digital learning and educational technology initiatives.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Larsen has held senior leadership roles in international education. As Senior Vice President of Business Development at Kaplan International, he served on the global management team, leading institutional partnerships and overseeing development and operations across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. As founder of Interlearn, Inc., he has spent the past decade developing international programs in partnership with universities to expand access to transformative educational experiences for underserved students in their home communities. His work brings together humanistic traditions, data-informed systems, and cross-cultural collaboration to broaden opportunity and support innovation in complex global environments.
Dr. Larsen holds a Ph.D. in the history of philosophy, scholarship, and science from Princeton University and a B.A., summa cum laude, from Pomona College. He has lived and worked extensively across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America and continues to advise universities, corporations, and nonprofit organizations on internationalization, business development, and strategic innovation in education and adjacent scientific and health-related fields.
