Biography
Dr. Cal Cooper is internationally known for his work and media appearances for psychology and skeptical activism. He holds an Associate Professor position at the University of Northampton, UK, and is a visiting lecturer on parapsychology at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, and the California Institute for Integral Studies, USA.
His research focus within parapsychology has spanned laboratory research on remote viewing and ganzfeld protocols, as well as experimental work with floatation tanks. He began work in parapsychology with a keen interest in field work for spontaneous cases, and maintains an active research interest in experiences and evidence suggestive of survival for human personality beyond bodily death and challenges to materialist science. He has also engaged in archival work for psychology and parapsychology, including biographical work for Alex Tanous and D. Scott Rogo, and collections and preservation of rare materials. He currently supervises a number of PhD candidates in topics of parapsychology, transpersonal psychology and anomalous experiences. His other fields of interest, teaching, research and writing include: human sexual behavior, death and bereavement, positive psychology and cyberpsychology.
Dr. Cooper holds various positions and titles. He is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Council Member of the Society for Psychical Research and Chair of its Survival Research Committee, an Eileen J. Garrett library Fellow of the Parapsychology Foundation, Professional Member of the Parapsychological Association, Principal Archival Researcher of the Alex Tanous Foundation, Hope Studies Affiliate Researcher of the University of Alberta.
To date he has authored and co-authored over 100 papers and articles, various chapters, and authored and edited 6 books. He is frequently engaged in work with TV and radio as a figurehead for psychology and critical thinking when it comes to public understanding for claims of the paranormal.
