Biography

Nandini V. Katre, Ph.D.,  was born and brought up in India and came to the U.S for her Ph.D.  studies in biochemistry and biophysics.  After several years of research as a scientist in the field of bioenergetics, the structure and function of proteins, and designing efficacious biological therapeutics, Dr. Katre shifted her research to science and spirituality. With on-going study and practice of Vedic and Buddhist philosophy, she has been researching and communicating the connection of non-duality of quantum science with that of spiritual traditions and relating this non-duality to applications in deep ecology, human lifestyle, and well-being. She developed online courses for Nithyananda Vedic University and currently teaches at CIHS, focusing on how human beings are designed for spiritual transformation and the evolution of consciousness.  Lay-ordained in the Soto Zen Buddhist tradition, Dr. Katre was a  co-founder of the Berkeley chapter of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship,  where she organized walking and sitting meditations for peace,  environment, justice and identified speakers for talks on engaged  Buddhism.  As Director of Biotechnology and Biodiversity with Greenpeace  International, Dr. Katre addressed the United Nations Conference on  Environment and Development (UNCED) at the United Nations Environmental  Program (UNEP) in Nairobi in 1992 and advised delegates on policy development for Agenda 21.  She has traveled to about 40 countries,  either as an invited speaker at conferences or exploring the land and knowing its people. She has 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 13 patents.
