Biography

Nick Bustos is a California licensed marriage and family therapist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology, Integral Psychology emphasis. He is the current Dean of Student Life at CIHS as well as lead faculty member in the psychology program. In addition he serves as adjunct faculty at the California Institute of Integral Studies. He is on the Executive Council of the International Society for Consciousness Studies, in the domain of applied counseling and psychotherapy. Dr. Bustos earned a master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of San Francisco and a doctoral degree from California Institute for Human Science. In addition to his positions in higher education, Dr. Bustos offers program development and psychotherapy services in K-12 special education programs for students and families faced with serious mental health challenges and likewise maintains a private psychotherapy practice where he treats individuals, couples and families. Dr. Bustos’ publication history includes scholarly journals related to psychotherapy practice and consciousness studies (Voices: The Art and Science of Psychotherapy; CONSCIOUSNESS: Ideas and Research for the Twenty-First Century). He regularly conducts trainings, workshops and presentations on a variety of clinical topics, both regionally and nationally. Strong background in the intersection of spiritual and psychological development, with emphasis on the inner healing journey of the therapist. Extensive background in meditation and contemplative practices, with additional training in healing and energy medicine. Background in critical analysis of culture and society; lover of art, literature and classical music.
