THE ONLY FULLY ACCREDITED MA SPECIALIZING IN YOGA THERAPY

This program offers holistic approaches to human health. Develop a deep understanding of the human mind, body, and spirit by exploring traditional global perspectives and approaches to medicine, science, religion, and philosophy.

The M.A. in Integral Health – Yoga Therapy concentration provides graduate students with a highly customizable foundation in global philosophical traditions, consciousness studies, and various research methodologies. After completing eight core courses, students can design their own concentrations by choosing elective courses from any of CIHS’s M.A. programs, which includes Integral Health, Psychology, and Integral Noetic Sciences.

An advanced standing option allows some current IAYT certified professionals to receive credit for the yoga therapy portion of the curriculum (28 units).

  • Core courses: 28 units
  • Yoga Therapy Courses: 24 units
  • Thesis: 4 units

Fifty-six (56) graduate quarter units are required to complete the Master of Arts degree in Integral Health – Yoga Therapy concentration. The twenty-eight core curriculum graduate quarter units of the Integral Health degree are earned in seven core courses designed to establish a basic foundation in the systems of philosophy and research methods. In addition to the core curriculum, twenty-four concentration quarter units in Yoga Therapy and a four unit thesis are required.

Important Note: The MA in Integral Health – Yoga Therapy concentration does not lead to certification by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), or to eligibility to apply for it. CIHS is not an IAYT approved program or school. Additional courses are required to be taken outside of CIHS at a IAYT accredited school if certification is desired.

 

Advanced standing status based on IAYT certification and/or prior yoga therapy training

Applicants to the Master of Arts in Integral Health – Yoga Therapy Concentration who have completed prior training under an IAYT Accredited Yoga Therapy Training Program may be considered for advanced standing status.

Students who have completed the IAYT Yoga Therapy certification process, or are currently pursuing certification, may be eligible for advanced standing in the Master of Arts in Integral Health – Concentration in Yoga Therapy Concentration at CIHS.

For example, individuals with at least a Bachelor’s degree who attended an IAYT accredited school and are IAYT certified can be awarded a maximum of 28 quarter unit credits towards their MA degree (1/2 of the degree). If granted, students must complete a minimum of 24 units from the core curriculum of the program plus a 4 unit thesis, as follows:

Program Outcomes

Graduates of CIHS’s Integral Health Master’s program will be able to:

  • PLO 3: Construct philosophical and scientific paradigms that advance systematic approaches to wellbeing.
  • PLO 4: Critically evaluate and solve problems in the human sciences in an integrally informed manner, through the use of qualitative and quantitative research.

The admissions team is always ready and overjoyed to help you. The core team consists of the senior Professor for the program that we’ve just mentioned, also known as the Program Director, and the Dean of Admissions. The extended team includes the Provost (the most senior academic leader at the university) and key administrative members of her team such as the Registrar, the Dean of Student Assessments and Outcomes, and the Dean of Student Success. 

The program may be completed in person or 100% at a distance. 

International students from all countries are welcome in person or online.

In person classes are held at our campus in beautiful Encinitas California.

U.S. Based distance students must reside in one of the following states: AZ, CA, CO, DE, FL, HI, ID, IL, IN, KY, ME, MI, MS, MO, NE, NH, NJ, NY, NC, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, WA.

What is a master’s in integral health with a Yoga Therapy Concentration?  

The collaboration between CIHS and Soul of Yoga offers the opportunity to earn a master’s degree in Integral Health while becoming a credentialed Yoga Therapist. This one-of-a-kind program is a comprehensive, three-dimensional study of the whole being – mind, body, spirit – utilizing the tools of yoga and holistic healing, including asana, meditation, pranayama, chanting, mudra, spiritual psychology and counseling, and lifestyle suggestions from an integrative and holistic perspective.
